A brake press operator uses an electrically powered industrial machine to create, shape and customize metal and plastic materials into a variety of forms dictated by the manufacturer. They are required to read and interpret detailed and complex instructions to produce the desired forms. Their job typically includes the maintenance of the machines they operates.
Exemplary motor skills are required for the position, as brake press machines have multiple settings and levers that must be adjusted for each job and quickly manipulated through the steps of creating finished products. A brake press operator must have good analytical and mathematical skills to interpret drawings, templates, drawings and blueprints that accompany each project. His job requires reading gauges and other measurement tools to determine and apply principals of geometric tolerances. He has to be able to effectively use hand tools power tools like hammers, anvils and grinders to put the finishing touches on his work. Good organizational skills are needed to collect and arrange his materials prior to starting each job.
Producing materials according to specifications and on schedule are the main focuses of a brake press operator. He must be cognizant of how different materials react to pressure, heat and shaping procedures. His job requires her to inspect the materials she produces for quality and conformance prior to their release to the end-users and correct any inconsistencies.
